CouplerTec’s Patented Capacitive Coupling Technology interferes with the electrical charge between iron and oxygen so it becomes hard for them to combine to form rust. In other words, it interferes with the metals ability to react with oxygen. We achieve this by creating a negative (-) charge (electrostatic field) on the metal surface. The Oxygen (-) atom is repelled by the (-) surface charge.
We create the negative charge on the surface of the vehicle by building a capacitor within the vehicle.
'A Capacitor is an electrical component used to store a charge, consisting of two conducting surfaces separated by a non-conductive dielectric'. The CouplerTec System consists of two major components which we use to build our capacitor within the vehicle. An Electronic Module – The CouplerTec Electronic Module transfers an output voltage of 400VDC (RMS) at a frequency of 200Khz to the Capacitive Couplers. Capacitive Coupler – The Capacitive Couplers are affixed to the painted body of the vehicle.
The Capacitive Couplers become charged and act as the positive plate of the capacitor. The charge is then induced from the Capacitive Coupler through the paint to the metal surface beneath, making the body of the vehicle act as the negative plate of the capacitor. Electrons are accumulated between the positive and negative plates and then dispersed across the entire metal surface. The paint is the dielectric that holds this charge static.
Any exposed bare metal surface will coat in a light coating of ferric oxide (surface rust) and will turn a dark brown colour which is non-active ferric oxide.
All CouplerTec electronic rustproofing systems are fully digitally controlled using state of the art microprocessor technology, similar to that found in current mobile cell phones. The microprocessor is programmed to monitor and control the performance of each internal circuit and their own dedicated Capacitive Coupler. This ensures that the required level of voltage, frequency and capacitance is applied constantly via the capacitive coupler to the body of the vehicle. The CouplerTec system confirms that it is working correctly by way of a Green flashing LED. Conversely, the system will also indicate the detection of a fault by way of a Red flashing LED. In the event of a fault, the system will automatically reset after the fault has been rectified.
Many of our competitors are implying that there Electronic Devices use the same technology as CouplerTec™. This is not true! CouplerTec’s Capacitive Coupling Technology is patented. Therefore, if any other company was to produce or attempt to market or promote the same technology then they would be in breach of the CouplerTec patents. CouplerTec tests every device that is placed on the world market to ensure that our patents have not been infringed upon.
South Coast Branch Surf Life Saving have had installed on a Toyota 4 x 4 Land Cruiser with alloy tray, a CouplerTec heavy duty electronic rust prevention.
Woolamai Beach SLSC took delivery of a new Ford Courier crew cab in November 1999, which was fitted with the CouplerTec system approximately six weeks later.
